I've been the secretary of the lazy humans association for quite some time, but I might be resigning today or taking a lower position as my views and perspectives on some issues have changed quite a bit.

The core message of the lazy humans association is to find the easiest and most effective way to do things, and not necessarily follow the hard (normally used) route. As such, we may choose to outsource anything that might take much time and energy to execute.

After being a part of 3 of my sisters' weddings, I've realised that this viewpoint is not always the best. Some things need to be done the hard way - by investing time and energy.

The 3 weddings have particularly shaped my views on communal events and I have come to believe that communal events can be quite uniting in nature.

It's just nice to have a family gather to organize an event and see the women engage in food preparation while the men erect canopies and do lots of the heavy lifting.

The conversations shared while completing those tasks can be quite deep and insightful. For example, how on earth was I supposed to find out that "that annoying girl in black wore a synthetic wig"?

Like How? Information like this shouldn't be joked with or hidden, because it is necessary for the growth of our economy. Yeahhhhh. Don't wear synthɛ to family events.

Not to forget how everyone trolled me for being single or the late night indomie and the early morning Gari ɛba with pepper.

The time and energy spent on these events is not slavery. It's love. And love is sacrifice. Sacrifice involves labour.

You invest labor and energy to build love. You build love by connecting with the right people, and it's even better if those people are family.

Communal events teach you how to connect well with others because having a tight connection with the Aunty sharing the food guarantees you a double portion of meat. It is not rocket science. It is basic biology.

So although I'm not particularly strong, and ignoring the fact that I cannot lift heavy stuff or walk long distances, I am super glad to invest the last of my energy running errands, erecting canopies and lifting heavy stuff at communal events. Because hey, it's family and family is important. ❤️

Good evening Ghana!
