The folklore is told of a discussion God once had with the animals in the period between their creation and the creation of man.
"Man" was to become God's prized procession and was about to be given the enviable ability to make choices. But God here's the thing: God created each man for a specific reason and he needed a way to ensure that each man knew why he had been created. Knowledge of this would be the key to each man's existence.
As such, He sought ideas from the animals on how to preserve this key. The Eagle in its elegance recommended that God hangs this precious key on the tip of the highest mountain. The blue whale in its might recommended that God keeps it at the deepest point of the ocean. The camel in it's resilience showed God a secret spot in the middle of the Sahara desert. At these points, the animals opined, the key to each man's existence would be kept securely.
But man is an explorer, and would honestly find it easily. Man has explored Mars, dug deep into the marina trench, and scouted the Sahara desert for oil. You also don't want the situation where one man would find it all. Man is selfish and that would be a terrible idea. God needed a better way out of this conundrum.
Then the rat, who had been preparing itself to live with man came in and gave a simple yet brilliant suggestion. The rat recommended that God hides the key inside of each man because although man is an explorer, he's quite reluctant to explore what is inside of him.
The rat further argued that man loves what's outside of him and hardly looks inside of him to appreciate what he's got. Hiding this key inside man would mean that He would have to be deliberate in his quest to find the key to this treasure.
For some context into this, how many times do we look inside ourselves to find out if we are actually the cause of the problems we face? We rarely do!
Eureka! 💡 The solution had been found! God would hide this precious key inside every man. That way, the key to each man's fulfilment in life wouldn't be far from reach, yet would be so precious that it would take some level of digging to find.
What God was trying to preserve for us in this story is our purpose. It is hidden in plain sight and yet we have to go deep into ourselves to find it. As humans, we are deeply exploring what is outside that we hardly find time to explore what is deeply embedded within us.
Although overlooked, our purpose is the key to fulfilment of any form in life. Our purpose is the reason for which we were born, the reason we're wired in a certain way and the easiest pathway to success in life. Yet, we spend little time in search of it. It is also so unfortunate that only a few people find it.
Our purpose is the reason for which we were born, the reason we're wired in a certain way and the easiest pathway to success in life.
“Purpose” is a big deal! It cost the life of Jesus and John the Baptist, and it also made David a King. The search for our purpose gives us a better understanding of who we are as people, how we function and most importantly why we are here on this earth.
I've spent the last year and a half trying to explore what my purpose really is and it has been a very fulfilling experience. With guidance, I've had to dig deep, ask tough questions, and do lots and lots of introspection.
